Meeting an Idol and a Revelation

Last week, another one of my dreams came true.

I ventured over to Atlanta with another photographer friend and we went to Jasmine Star’s “The Fix”.

Many of you may not know who Jasmine Star is, but she is a very esteemed wedding photographer based out of Orange County, California.

She is amazing and such an inspiration.

She did a meet and greet before it started, and signed my copy of “Exposed”, which is a magazine that she published.

She also complimented my outfit and my accessories. I Died.

Meeting her was amazing. She is so sweet in person as you would think, and is “real”.

She spoke of so many things that touched my heart, but mostly about the struggle of “making it”.

I don’t really talk about photography a lot on here. Honestly, I don’t know what to say. I feel like there are so many more people who can say it better, but I am going to try. I told Jasmine about my struggle. I keep those two lives separate. Photography goes on the photography blog, and everything else is here. But she suggested that maybe I try to merge the two. So, I am going to dip my toe in the water. I am going to start working on a post for y’all. Basic photography rules, that anyone can do. It dawned on me while at Blissdom, that people read this blog that live near me and have no clue that I am a photographer or even where I live.

So, now is the time to ask, what are some photography questions that you guys have, that I could answer?

I’m definitely a novice-I have an SLR but I honestly never pull it out because the point and shoot is easier for the diaper bag. That said, any tips to make point and shoot pictures better, especially when taking pictures of kids?

Some info about lighting, getting the proper light etc would be interesting!

  • You look really happy in that photo – love that great big, genuine smile!
(no photog questions…I take all my lame photos with phone, boo)

I have a fancy Canon I purchased last year after my son was born, but all I know how to do is take pics in AUTO. I would like to take better pics and be able to change things, but have no idea where to start. Do you recommend just playing around, taking a class somewhere, or how did you learn?
Really, though, I need all help I can get so general info is good too! :)

You look great in the pic!!

  • I would love, love, love any of your photo tips! Teach me how to use a DSLR! :) My biggest advancement was starting to take pictures without the flash, but I don’t know a thing about how to use any of the other features and shoot out of auto.

I would love to learn how you shoot your photos – like, in your most recent post on Addy’s gymnastics – I loved those pictures – were they SOOC or edited? What were the “specs” of each photo? Do you use lots of actions in your photography? How can I make my photos look more professional? And how on earth are your photos soooo clear (I have major pic envy)?!

As you can see… there is a lot you can teach about this subject! Can’t wait for the posts!! :)
