My First Snow Run

We woke up Thursday morning to a Winter Wonderland. Except, I like Summer and am over this extremely cold weather. This was, of course, after already being trapped in the house for 2 days… err… I mean, being at home with my sweet redheaded children who love to fight in a fort and bake in the Easy Bake Oven.

Proof I went a tad insane. Lululemon, fuzzy house slippers, and a Key West coffee mug. photo 373C6BA0-F088-4B64-A62F-9279DFF2DA65_zpsyoznvbj8.jpg

As I sat watching the snowfall Wednesday evening, it was so peaceful, and all I could think was “I HAVE to run in this!”. Someone should have had me committed at that moment, because that’s the exact opposite of me 2 years ago. Heck, even 2 months ago. I don’t do the extreme cold. But I was itching to get out in it.

I decided to run out my front door. Something I very rarely (okay. Never.) do. Simply because it’s not very safe. People drive crazy on country roads and I don’t want to be road kill.

It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life… it was gorgeous.

I learned that you run on the powdered stuff and don’t try to attempt to run in someone’s tire tracks, because it’s frozen and the powder is soft. I stopped and took pictures when I wanted (which was a lot!). I even had some animals look at me like I was crazy.

It tried to eat my shoes, but I wouldn’t let it!

It was so fun running like this. Having to be careful where I stepped, but just running for fun with no time goals or stress and some beautiful surroundings. It was wonderful to help relieve some of the stress of my upcoming race and really just have fun running in the snow.

Not bad.

Here’s to a sub 2 at Mercedes!

Let it Snow?

Yesterday started a normal day off for me. Texting with my friends, some laundry, straightening up, etc. I knew it was going to be a cold one, but any snow was predicted WAY south of here, so I wasn’t really worried about anything. Around 9:15 I was informed that The Reds school was closing at 10, so to town I went to get them. It was snowing pretty heavily by that point and I actually slipped a couple of times while going to get them. I got some quick pointers from Molly on driving in the snow.

I was ready to get back home with my reds and snuggle down.

Big Red wanted to play immediately… so I bundled her up. Little Red wanted to put on her fleece pi’s and work on a craft… Polar opposites, those two!

School was canceled for Wednesday here, so we weren’t going anywhere.

In case you were wondering, the girls woke up at 6 AM… on a day with NO SCHOOL!! I asked A why they were up so early, and she said “That’s what kids do!” No… Kids sleep late and don’t wake up the chickens! After spending 15 minutes getting The Reds dressed for them to play outside for 15 minutes. Then the inevitable was asked… “Can we get out the Easy Bake Oven?” Oof. I tried to hide it. I am not good with this thing and A’s attention span just isn’t long enough for it. After an hour of attempting to cook some chocolate chip cookies, I gave up and just let them eat the semi-cooked cookies.

I’m glad to know all of my friends and family are safe… there are some terrible stories out there!! Before you Notherners judge us… you should read this!

We got snow in Alabama.. so obviously the entire state had to shut down. The girls got out of school and both mine and J’s works closed. It was a nice impromtu day snowed in… until our power went out.

It was out for over an hour, but I was sort of freaking out… We weren’t prepared to be without power.

What’s the only logical thing to do when the power is out and you are snowed in?

Snowball fight, of course!

We don’t really keep snow gear on hand down here, so I was thankful for the hats and  gloves the girls got for Christmas. I layered them in with leggings and fleece pants and rain boots and we went outside.

Addy was obsessed with eating snow.. Eeeww.

While Claire just had a blast running around.. and I was so happy to get some really good shots of her real smile.. it’s hard to capture.

We had so much fun running around and having a snow ball fight.. I’m sure the neighbors thought we were being attacked we were screaming and laughing so much.

Claire said.. “Mommy! Get your camera and  chase me around!” Let me tell you… running around in the snow in rain boots is a work out!

Sadly, the interstates were shut down here and people were trapped trying to get home… Some were there for 10 hours, finally abandoning their cars and getting a hotel.

We just are not prepared for snow here, as sad as it is.

While we were playing outside, I noticed that our neighbors outside lights were on, so I gathered the girls up and scooted them inside to the warmth and bribed them with some hot chocolate.

We woke up to another no school day on Friday.. Luckily I was already off work!

Did y’all get any snow? If so, did you play in it?

Christmas 2010

The girls had an amazing Christmas. I don’t think we could have asked for a more perfect day… a first White Christmas, make up that has been the hit, Boots to match Mommy’s… and a NEW ROOM! Yep.. Santa brought the girls everything they need to start sharing a room– which is what Addison has wanted for MONTHS. Can you guess what I spent Christmas Day doing?? That’s right… painting a bedroom blue!

In case you didn’t notice, the bed was the hit. We spent most of the day lounging and playing on the bed. Too bad you can’t always have one in your living room.. oh wait. Aren’t those called couches?

These next two pictures make me so happy. You see, my MIL is a picture hoarder. She loves some pictures. And the number of albums of her boys growing up is unreal. And there are so many pictures of the boys holding signs for whatever is going on. “first christmas” or “lost first tooth”. Now my little Addison has her first sign from MeMac… her first White Christmas!!

A White Christmas wasn’t complete without a snowball fight and making a snowman with Uncle Jay… You really should click these two pictures to get the full effect of their different faces with the snowman!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas this year.. we have lots of Before and After’s because 2011 is going to be the year of getting my house decorated exactly the way I want it!!

We woke up this morning to some snow on the ground… it honestly scared me a little. I wasn’t expecting it. When Addison woke up, she immediately said she wan’t to go play in it. It was only 6:30… Anyway.. I was able to drag it out until almost 7:30. We went out and played for a little while and she threw some snow balls at me. I was able to talk her into coming back inside and drinking some hot chocolate so I could get Claire down for her nap and then we could go outside and build a snowman. Luckily, John left his gloves at home, and I was able to put them on her, because her poor little hands were cold!

Two seconds before she threw a snow ball at me…

Our snow man… she named him Daddy. When I tried to put his carrot nose on, the whole blob of a head fell off…and birds have already eaten his raisin eyeballs.

I was able to talk her out of kicking him over.

Trying out the snow… she likes the taste!

Maybe a future as a plumber? Not sure…

Addison loves snow!

John took the video so some of it is a little rocky. Hope you enjoy! Addison sure did!

It Snowed!!!!

I cannot believe it!! The weatherman was actually right!! It Snowed! It has not snowed as long as John and I have known each other. So, of course, we took Addison to play in it!! She loved it!! We had trouble getting her to come in even though her hands were sort of frostbitten. We are not prepared in the McPhillips Household for snow. I was the only one who had gloves. John ended up wearing work gloves to build the snowman.

Our Snowman!
